Why Study in Australia?

Australia is the third most popular destination for international students globally, with over 700,000 international students enrolled each year. It is home to 7 universities in the QS World Top 100, including the University of Melbourne (#13), Australian National University (#30), and the University of Sydney (#18). Australia offers a safe, multicultural environment, world-class research facilities, and one of the most generous post-study work visa regimes in the world.

Tuition Fees in Australia

Tuition fees for international students in Australia range from AUD 20,000–50,000 per year depending on the university and programme. Engineering and Medicine programmes tend to be at the higher end (AUD 40,000–50,000), while Arts and Business programmes are more affordable (AUD 20,000–35,000). The University of Melbourne charges AUD 35,000–48,000 per year. Living costs range from AUD 20,000–27,000 per year depending on the city.

Australia Awards Scholarship

Australia Awards are long-term development scholarships funded by the Australian government. They are one of the most generous scholarships available to Indian students, covering: full tuition fees, return airfare, establishment allowance (AUD 5,000), monthly living stipend (AUD 2,000+), health insurance, and academic support. The scholarship is available for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Applications open in February and close in April each year.

Student Visa Subclass 500

Indian students need an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) to study in Australia. Requirements include: Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from your university, proof of financial capacity (AUD 24,505/year), IELTS 5.5–7.0 (depending on the university), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and a valid passport. The visa allows you to work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term time and unlimited hours during holidays.

Post-Study Work Rights in Australia

Australia offers one of the most generous post-study work visa regimes globally. The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) allows graduates to work in Australia for 2–6 years depending on their qualification and location of study. Students who study in regional Australia get an additional 1–2 years. This visa allows you to work in any occupation, giving you time to gain Australian work experience and potentially qualify for permanent residency.
